Health & Beauty Guide On Yogabugs

Health and Beauty Guide was approached by YogaBugs to appraise their new video and I had the most general of views where it concerned yoga. I imagined middle aged ladies clad in Lycra, with long woollen legwarmers of various colours ruffled down neatly at the ankles, trying to get into excruciating positions!

Little did I know what to expect when asked to have a look at the new YogaBugs video aimed at children of between 3 and 7 years old. I certainly wish there had been something similar to this in my youth as I am convinced I would not be any where as near as stiff as I am today – and I am certainly not middle aged yet!

The whole process of getting the children to partake is in fact very clever. I know of many children within this age group who would have looked at me as though I was an alien from outer space, had I asked them to do yoga. This is not the case with Yoga Bugs. Taught by Fenella Lindsell, a yoga expert with 15 years experience and also founder of YogaBugs, the children’s imaginations and creativity have been captured by telling them a story of adventure – in this video the stories are a deep sea adventure and a trip through the jungle. Each story has been superbly linked together to make the children take part without actually realising what they are doing. It is a concept that we parents have been aware of for some time and most probably adopt it on a day to day basis without having realised it. The concept, being interactive role play.

Fenella has the children believing in the story and they listen to her every word as she tells the story and makes it exciting for them. Just the expressions on the children’s faces, tells all you need to know – that they are enjoying themselves.

The whole process of getting these children to participate is not designed purely to exercise them. With the co-ordination skills required, it also enhances co-ordination, balance and brain development and can aid children who have conditions such as dyslexia.

Integrated into the story are the traditional yoga positions incorporating a warm-up, then the adventure itself and then a time for relaxation, but giving the body a thorough work out at the same time

Overall, it is well worth while investing in a copy of this video whether you are a teacher, toddler group leader or just a mum.
